וַיָּחָן֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֹתָ֤ם וַֽיְרַחֲמֵם֙ וַיִּ֣פֶן אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם לְמַ֣עַן בְּרִית֔וֹ אֶת־ אַבְרָהָ֖ם יִצְחָ֣ק וְיַֽעֲקֹ֑ב וְלֹ֤א אָבָה֙ הַשְׁחִיתָ֔ם וְלֹֽא־ הִשְׁלִיכָ֥ם מֵֽעַל־ פָּנָ֖יו עַד־ עָֽתָּה׃

וּכְהִתְפַּלֵּ֤ל עֶזְרָא֙ וּכְ֨הִתְוַדֹּת֔וֹ בֹּכֶה֙ וּמִתְנַפֵּ֔ל לִפְנֵ֖י בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים נִקְבְּצוּ֩ אֵלָ֨יו מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֜ל קָהָ֣ל רַב־ מְאֹ֗ד אֲנָשִׁ֤ים וְנָשִׁים֙ וִֽילָדִ֔ים כִּֽי־ בָכ֥וּ הָעָ֖ם הַרְבֵּה־ בֶֽכֶה׃
חַ֣י ׀ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ אִם־ יֶשׁ־ גּ֤וֹי וּמַמְלָכָה֙ אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹֽא־ שָׁלַ֨ח אֲדֹנִ֥י שָׁם֙ לְבַקֶּשְׁךָ֔ וְאָמְר֖וּ אָ֑יִן וְהִשְׁבִּ֤יעַ אֶת־ הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ וְאֶת־ הַגּ֔וֹי כִּ֖י לֹ֥א יִמְצָאֶֽכָּה׃
וְ֠הַצֹּפֶה כִּֽי־ יִרְאֶ֨ה אֶת־ הַחֶ֜רֶב בָּאָ֗ה וְלֹֽא־ תָקַ֤ע בַּשּׁוֹפָר֙ וְהָעָ֣ם לֹֽא־ נִזְהָ֔ר וַתָּב֣וֹא חֶ֔רֶב וַתִּקַּ֥ח מֵהֶ֖ם נָ֑פֶשׁ ה֚וּא בַּעֲוֺנ֣וֹ נִלְקָ֔ח וְדָמ֖וֹ מִיַּֽד־ הַצֹּפֶ֥ה אֶדְרֹֽשׁ׃
וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כַּעֲצַ֤ת הַיְלָדִים֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אָבִי֙ הִכְבִּ֣יד אֶֽת־ עֻלְּכֶ֔ם וַאֲנִ֖י אֹסִ֣יף עַֽל־ עֻלְּכֶ֑ם אָבִ֗י יִסַּ֤ר אֶתְכֶם֙ בַּשּׁוֹטִ֔ים וַאֲנִ֕י אֲיַסֵּ֥ר אֶתְכֶ֖ם בָּעַקְרַבִּֽים׃
