וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים בָּ֑אוּ וַיִּנָּטְשׁ֖וּ בְּעֵ֥מֶק רְפָאִֽים׃

וַיְהִ֖י גְּבוּלָ֑ם יִזְרְעֶ֥אלָה וְהַכְּסוּלֹ֖ת וְשׁוּנֵֽם׃

עַל־ זֶ֗ה הָיָ֤ה דָוֶה֙ לִבֵּ֔נוּ עַל־ אֵ֖לֶּה חָשְׁכ֥וּ עֵינֵֽינוּ׃

יָב֣וֹא שָׁל֔וֹם יָנ֖וּחוּ עַל־ מִשְׁכְּבוֹתָ֑ם הֹלֵ֖ךְ נְכֹחֽוֹ׃

נוּגֵ֧י מִמּוֹעֵ֛ד אָסַ֖פְתִּי מִמֵּ֣ךְ הָי֑וּ מַשְׂאֵ֥ת עָלֶ֖יהָ חֶרְפָּֽה׃

vayaaMsi jinva bRhatash ca jaagRva ushig devaanaam asi sukratur vipaam

قَدْ قَالَهَا الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَمَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ

imaani tubhyaM svasaraaNi yemire vrataa devaanaam manuSash ca dharmabhiH

οἱ γὰρ τοιαῦτα λέγοντες ἐμφανίζουσιν ὅτι πατρίδα ἐπιζητοῦσιν.

haMsair iva sakhibhir vaavadadbhir ashmanmayaani nahanaa vyasyan

dvaadasha dyuun yad agohyasyaatithye raNann RbhavaH sasantaH

yad udvato nivato yaasi bapsat pRthag eSi pragardhiniiva senaa

imaM jiivebhyaH paridhiM dadhaami maiSaaM nu gaad aparo artham etam

I counsel thee to keep the king’s commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.
